DiY, Smokescreen & All Systems Tent @ Headstock - 9/9/11 to 11/9/11

We're very proud to have been asked to VJ in the DiY, Smokescreen & All Systems tent at Headstock Festival in Nottinghamshire. Both DiY and Smokescreen have been around for a long time mixing the very best in underground deep house music. During that time they've met some other fantastic folk many of whom they've invited to play at this amazing event.

This is the lineup:
Ralph Lawson (20/20 Vision, Back to Basics)
Inland Knights (Drop, Borrowed)
Digs & Whoosh (DiY)
The Littlemen (Mobiletrax)
Simon DK (DiY)
Frandanski (Smokescreen)
Winston Hazel (Warp, Forgemasters)
Rob (Smokescreen)
Kinky Movement (Replay)
Tom (Special Interest, Phobic)
Damo (Babble)
Dan and Lee Jones (Deep Cartel)
The Twenties In Colour (Brown, Unpopular) live
SAS DJs
Chilly Phil (Free Party People, DiY)
Kaotic (Wireless)
Lee Whitehead (Transform)
Jayney (Jack Shack)

They've set up a Facebook event page for this tent.

We've also been asked to provide video for the Miners Welfare and BBC Introducing Stage where our resident DJ Tim Giro will also be playing in between bands on the Sunday night. This stage is shaping up nicely with The PeteBox headlining on the Saturday night. This stage has a Facebook page too.

Inter AVin the usual summer sabbatical

After our exhausting but brilliant time at Bearded Theory we have been pretty quiet on the blog, however, this does not mean we've not been up to owt. There are several plans in the pipeline and we'll run through them in this post.

Firstly, I've been doing some programming for M$'s incredible Kinect device. One of the things I really like about Kinect is the way it makes background subtraction really simple. You can do some really cool video stuff with it. I've recently started programming for it in Processing. Hopefully I'll have some apps that are polished enough to use at gigs soon.

We've finally finished our Gambiological inspired Tagtool project and it is all working flawlessly. We can't wait to take it out. We've also been looking at Friispray which is a project similar to Tagtool. We are quite keen to have a go at this.

This leads on nicely to the next point. In our first post of the year we threatened to put on an exhibition type event to promote cutting edge visual techniques. This was planned for Easter, however, the planning for Bearded Theory had to take priority and we postponed the event. Various local new media artists were contacted about involvement, and we have had a very positive response. This project currently has a working name of "I-Kandy". More on this in the future.

Through a series of bizzare coincidences we seem to have landed ourselves a gig at Headstock festival. We should be found VJing in the DIY and Smokescreen tent who will, no doubt, be playing the best in underground house music. The festival has been running for a few years now, gets good reviews and is pretty much on our doorstep at Newstead Abbey. Echo and the Bunnymen and African Headcharge will be playing on the main stage too. This is in September and runs from the 9th till 11th.

In November InterAVinit will be 5 years old! And we'll be celebrating with a rather large party. We currently have a date (Friday 11th November) but no venue. Hopefully Jim and Jamie of Giro Soundsystem will be playing at this. All to be confirmed and announced in October.

Oh, by the way, the image at the top of this post is the blog's QR code.

BTF photos on Flickr

Just a short post to link you to InterAVinit on Flickr. I've slowly been collecting photos from our amazing time with the Drop Inn at Bearded Theory and uploading the very best ones to our Flickr account. I'll be adding more in the future. You'll also find a few photos from our mostly undocumented past.

Sound Of Derby @ Vernon Arms, Spondon - 22/04/11

When someone phones you up and asks you if you'll do lighting for some rock 'n' roll bands who're doing a fundraiser for a little girl who needs to go to the States for an op, your inclined to say "No problem. When? Where?".

This one features Addictive Philosophy, Crazy Diamond, Traditional Goodbye, Grand Ultra and The Rebels.

Quite looking forward to this, benefit is for Harriet Gregory, see you there!

Inside Out @ Nags Head - 24/04/11

This one's brill! Easter Sunday, 5PM till 2AM, on Mansfield Road in Notts, dead easy to find. We're there doing some lighting and some visuals.

Line up for this is super cool... Gav and Steve from the Littlemen are there, Damien Bailey (Babble), Jayney (Jack Shack), DJ Dimes (Noise Safari), Paul Andrews (Hyped Up), Lee Gallyon, Nick and Morph (Rugkutta), Chris Q and Lee (Rugkutta), DJ Fee (Imperial Daze), Moulty (Imperial Daze), Curtis Pope (Imperial Daze).

Nags Head is an uber cool venue, massive outdoor bit with covered areas. I know because we checked it out last week.

Rugkutta lot are putting this one on, they've set up a fb event page

For The People By The People @ Redemption - 19/03/11

Just a quickie update... I've just heard from the organisers of this event that due to unforeseen circumstances there is a last minute change to the lineup on the night... In their own words;
Massive apologies to Wireless Sound System and those of you that were looking forward to enjoying them DJ at this event. Due to Redemption having £1500 stolen from them on Friday 12th March we were told that we would have to end FOR THE PEOPLE BY THE PEOPLE at 11pm so that Redemption can hold it's usual Saturday club night and make some money on the door.
Since we were VJing for Wireless that means we wont be there... Anyway, thought we'd let you know and we hope the City Zine fundraiser goes well anyway. We're sure it will!

Drop Inn Arena @ Bearded Theory - 13/5/11 to 15/5/11

Well this project has been moving along slowly but is now gaining momentum. We're providing visuals for the entire weekend, quite a task really, but luckily we'll have help from VJ Glenn Millington AKA Thought Projector.

Glenn will be leading VJ workshops on the Friday afternoon and InterAVinit will be running a TagTool workshop on Saturday afternoon. Hopefully we'll have our new Gambiological TagTool ready in time for this. The TagTool workshop will follow on from a Graffiti workshop by Urban Canvas enabling the people who've attended this a chance to try out their tags on projectors.

Anyway, the Drop Inn have set up an events page for their arena on Facebook with full listings for the three days on it. Oh, and they'll have tickets for sale by next week.

City Zen's 5th Birthday @ Ukranian Centre - 1/4/11

City Zen will be celebrating their fifth birthday in typical free-form style and we'll be providing PA, lighting and visuals to help the celebrations along! Over the last 5 years City Zen has raised funds for a wide variety of local grass roots charities. This gig will raise funds for City Zen itself, to be put towards the costs involved in putting on future gigs.

Bands on the night are Remand To Vegas, The Chaotic Lifestyles Of The Supernormals and The Luddite Bastards. There will also be comedy, food, open mic, workshops and much more. This event is child friendly, so bring the family along. Entry is on donation basis. Full details on Facebook.

For The People By The People @ Redemption - 19/03/11

This gig is a City Zine alldayer/fundraiser going on at the new Redemption nightclub in Derby. City Zine is an open platform publication where anyone can express thier views, artwork or whatever. They give it away too.

There will be bands, stalls, films, comedy and open mic and much much more on offer, but our VJ team is there to provide visuals for Wireless soundsystem who are spinning tunes from 12pm to 3am. Come down, enjoy yourself and support a good cause. Entrance is on a donation basis and will go towards publication costs. Full details on Facebook.
edit: 17/3/11 see update

Jack Shack @ The Moog - 4/3/11

We like Jack Shack; they like visuals: it's a symbiotic relationship. As usual we'll be taking our VJ team out to this.

The Moog is just off Alfreton Road in Nottingham. this will be our first gig in Notts as we didn't actually make The Xmas Sessions at Spanky Van Dykes due to hangovers and transport problems! Shame that, but hey, never mind, we weren't actually on the listing.

Jayney has Kinky Movement and The Sound Diggers on the menu for this one, so this should be a top night. Me and Jayne explored the Moog last year with a view to putting on gigs there and it's a very cool venue, they even have an old Moog synth on the wall and one of those tabletop spacies machines. We're defo looking forward to this.

Drop Inn Arena @ Bearded Theory - 13/5/11 to 15/5/11

Scrap what I said about our most ambitious project to date in a previous post. InterAVinit will be providing VJ workshops, visuals and lighting for The Drop Inn's 1500 person arena at Bearded Theory Festival.

Last year the festival attracted 10,000 visitors and they've had to move site. The new site is at Kedleston Hall Park, just outside Derby, so dead handy for us. The festival runs from 9AM on the Friday to Midnight(?) on the Sunday. The Drop Inn arena is promising to be highly entertaining and very interactive with various workshops on a variety of technologies, a good mixture of bands and DJs, a UV party and more beards than you can shake a stick at.

This is exactly the sort of event we've been aiming at for the last 6 years and we're glad that our unique relationship with the Drop Inn has led us to this.

Expect updates on this as it is in the very early planning stages at the moment.

In case you've not noticed, at the bottom of our navigation column to the left there's a facebook "like" widget. We've set up a page here; http://www.facebook.com/pages/InterAVinit-AV-Party-Collective/172934776075167
this page will be used for info, discussion, etcetera. Also if you'd like to get involved in what we do, by all means, use this page to get in touch.

Onwards and upwards in 2011

We're currently busy tidying up after last year and making plans for the current year.... We have quite a few gigs in the pipeline, however, our most ambitious plan currently is an event totally focused on promoting visuals and introducing some of the cutting edge techniques in this field.

This will probably happen at some point during the Easter school holiday as the early part of the event at least will be child friendly (and there's too much planning involved to be ready for half term). At the moment we have no venue or date or artists confirmed, just a lot of good ideas.
Projections will include live AV sets, projection mapping to 3D space, big screen Wii, Tagtool and visual Kinect hacks. The event will be highly interactive, lots to play with, ambient music, colourful, interesting and not at all like our usual parties.

Local artists are being invited to perform, but we'd like to get as many people involved on the actual night as possible so if you think you have something to contribute please let us know. A facebook event page will be created for planning and promotion which we'll announce on here and, obviously, on fb.

Expect more posts on this as the idea evolves!
